Well, I am going to talk about my interview last Friday.
It was almost forgotten that I applied for the Goldman Sachs Equities & FICC Easter Programme until I received an email containing only a request of confirming the interview date.
It took me some time to find out what I had applied, I finally recalled that I did a test on their website and found that I was suitable to do Equities & FICC sometime last Nov.
The interview was scheduled at 4.00pm, I went out from my dorm at about 3.20 (It was proven to be a huge mistake). When I entered the tube station, there were signs indicating several delays (as usual) including northern & Piccadilly fortunately circle line was not included. (Because I have to take circle line train to Blackfriars. But it was a nightmare, the train came very quickly, it also stopped very quickly but in the darkness between notting hill gate and high street kensington. The trip from notting hill gate to high street kensington normally take me 8 minutes on foot but this time took me 15 minutes by train. And even no apologies from the TFL!
When I arrived Blackfriars, said in the email, it normally take you 5 minutes to get to Goldman Sachs building which is No.120, Fleet Street. You should now, it no so easy to find a particular building in London, but we have map and specially nice website such as multimap. Before my departure, I did do some research including enter the "120, Fleet Street, London" in the search box. But what I got was a "slightly" wrong point on the map(if you are interested go check yourself, click here, actually, i should be able to find the correct one, by the result was a bit confusing), which wasted me 10 minutes which was extremely important at that particular time and 2 pounds ( I had to call a taxi).
SO, I finally arrived at Goldman Sachs, it was raining, and I was in a bad state, and it was 10 minutes late for a 30-40 minutes interview.
SO, what we had discussed,? Probably you are only interested in this part. Certainly not being late, the "boss" even know why, "it was raining isn't it" she said.
Then we talk about why I wanted to apply their programme, what do I do everyday, which part of my course do i enjoy the most, what do i think of investment banking, stock & futures trading, so on and so forth.
I though my "performance" was quite good. And It was really a good experience and preparation for my application of internship next year.
But I knew I am going to receive letters such as this one, because I was late, and had to say buuuuuuuuu to myself, since I did not prepare for this interview, but I believe I will certainly try my best next time.
Dear XXX
Thank you very much for taking the time to meet us to discuss possible opportunities for our Easter Programme within the Equities and Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities divisions at Goldman Sachs. My colleagues very much enjoyed meeting with you.
It is always a challenging task selecting candidates that we feel will add the greatest value to our internship programmes. We regret to inform you that although we were very impressed by your accomplishments, we have decided not to pursue your application further at this stage.
We would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to apply to our Summer Programmes in your penultimate year of study.
Kind regards
YYY
